Overview

University Instructors LLC is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to lead, change, and inspire students in the Marlborough, MA area. In the role as special education job coach, you will have the opportunity to serve students and help create inclusive and positive learning environments and experiences.

Responsibilities

This is not an exhaustive list of job duties other duties may be assigned as needed

 

Statement of Duties:                          

  • Support the special education teachers, and related staff in developing prerequisite skills for job placement.
  • Assist special education students [individually and in groups] in acquiringpre-employment skills and reinforcing skills to increase independence.
  • Work collaboratively with community businesses and organizations to maintain community based vocational opportunities for students.
  • Accompany students into the community for training in community, vocational and social skills.
  • Monitor student performance in a variety of work settings.
  • Maintain a daily log on student performance.
  • Assist with Activities of daily living as necessary (toileting, dressing, and transferring as necessary.)
  • Offer input to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and student safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Educational Team Leader, special education staff, and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree, pass the Para-Pro test 464/480 or higher, or completion of 48 undergraduate credits from an accredited college or university.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish and/or Portuguese) and bilingual (Spanish and/or Portuguese) required for EL Paras.
  • Prefer prior experience with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Must be a Team Player as a respectful part of a team in demonstrating constructive, collaborative behaviors.
  • Able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds occasionally and transfer heavier amounts with assistance from other staff and/or student transfer apparatus.
  • Good physical agility which requires the following: frequent bending, sitting, standing, kneeling and lifting and occasional running.
  • Able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of student learners.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Work Conditions

Duties are primarily performed within a school setting. Physical requirements include frequent standing, sitting, walking, and lifting. The role often requires getting up and down from the floor or low seating, assisting students with mobility, and occasionally running or moving quickly to ensure student safety. Additional physical tasks may include helping students with transfers, positioning, toileting, or use of adaptive equipment, as well as supporting students during physical activities or transitions between classrooms. Some assignments are subject to strict deadlines, especially when adapting and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse student groups. The position involves regular interaction with students and parents who may be experiencing heightened emotional states. Employees are expected to use de-escalation techniques, maintain a calm and supportive demeanor, and implement behavior intervention strategies as needed to ensure a safe and positive environment. Students may exhibit behavioral challenges, including verbal outbursts or physical behaviors such as hitting, kicking, biting, eloping, or throwing objects. Employees must be prepared to respond appropriately to these situations, following established safety protocols and behavior management plans. Employees may be required to provide both emergency and non-emergency health-related services to students, including basic first aid, assisting with prescribed medical procedures, or responding to health emergencies according to school protocols.

Compensation

7 hours a day/ Mon-Friday/ $23.69 a day
