Overview

University Instructors, LLC is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to lead, change, and inspire students in the Durham area. In the role of EC  Teacher, you will have the opportunity to serve students and help create inclusive and positive learning environments and experiences.

 

Position Purpose:

To plan, organize, and present instruction in an instructional environment to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Teachers may coordinate and direct the activities of the teacher assistant.

Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities:

  • Have materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson or instructional activity; start class promptly; get students on task quickly; maintain a high level of student time-on-task.
  • Establish and enforce rules and procedures for routine administrative matters and student participation; address inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
  • Begin lessons with a review of previous materials and clearly stated learning objectives; present lessons using relevant examples and demonstrations; provide smooth transitions and clear summaries.
  • Maintain clear and reasonable work standards and due dates; monitor student progress and check written work regularly.
  • Provide timely feedback to encourage student growth; affirm correct responses and offer guided feedback when needed.
  • Maintain instructional plans aligned with school and state goals; use diagnostic information to revise objectives and strategies; keep accurate student records.
  • Treat all students fairly and equitably; interact effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and the community.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, and regulations; demonstrate ongoing professional growth.
  • Support and ensure implementation of each child’s IEP across all settings.
  • Complete required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Work Conditions:

 

Duties are primarily performed within a school setting. Physical requirements include frequent standing, sitting, walking, and lifting. The role often requires getting up and down from the floor or low seating, assisting students with mobility, and occasionally running or moving quickly to ensure student safety. Additional physical tasks may include helping students with transfers, positioning, toileting, or use of adaptive equipment, as well as supporting students during physical activities or transitions between classrooms. Some assignments are subject to strict deadlines, especially when adapting and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse student groups. The position involves regular interaction with students and parents who may be experiencing heightened emotional states. Employees are expected to use de-escalation techniques, maintain a calm and supportive demeanor, and implement behavior intervention strategies as needed to ensure a safe and positive environment. Students may exhibit behavioral challenges, including verbal outbursts or physical behaviors such as hitting, kicking, biting, eloping, or throwing objects. Employees must be prepared to respond appropriately to these situations, following established safety protocols and behavior management plans. Employees may be required to provide both emergency and non-emergency health-related services to students, including basic first aid, assisting with prescribed medical procedures, or responding to health emergencies according to school protocols.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and be willing  to enroll in an alternate route licensure program/ educator prep program prior to employment
  • Experience working with EC students or leading an EC classroom is preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Some Bachelors degree programs may be accepted from nationally accredited institutions please work with your recruiter to verify 
  • Candidates must be willing to enroll in an EPP (Educator Prep Program) ****tuition Assistance Provided to be considered 
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.7 for all EPP programs

Compensation

$30 Hourly/Monday-Friday/Up to 8 hours a day
