Overview

University Instructors (UI) is seeking dynamic face-to-face candidates with a passion for supporting students in grades K-12. In this role, you’ll work in schools to directly help students overcome learning challenges in reading/literacy and math.

Responsibilities

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements. Include, but are not limited to:

  • Have familiarity with a variety of learning platforms and K-12 course content, structure, and style within any of these subject areas: reading/literacy, math, spanish or social studies (preferred)
  • Communicate and engage with students in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Review relevant course information and/or content with students.
  • Can respond to student questions in a positive, and supportive manner, and providing detailed explanations so that the student can grasp key course concepts.
  • Assist students with test and quiz preparation by reviewing key course concepts.
  • Bridge communications between students and teachers regarding specific course content.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Provide bilingual or English instruction as required in reading, mathematics and other subjects according to in service, instruction and guidance from certificated staff.
  • Ability to function independently in second language instruction and home/school communication.
  • Supervises students in ESL instructional activities.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and record keeping activities including, student attendance and behavior records, academic and achievement records, preparation of materials, and maintaining records and supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of school records and information.
  • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Perform student assessment activities including administration of tests, scoring tests and written work, and maintaining assessment records.
  • Set up and maintain special classroom equipment and learning centers.
  • Operate audio-visual and office equipment.
  • Assure health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures. Perform routine first aid and assist with student medical treatment after proper training. Escort students from the classroom to resource rooms and other programs.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, in service training, and parent conferences.
  • Perform the functions of the position in an accurate, neat and timely fashion.
  • Use good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Review, observe and record instructional data. Assist with crisis intervention and student discipline.
  • Support and assist in the enforcement of classroom, school and district rules including, observe, record, and chart student behavior, and implement behavior management strategies.
  • Conduct individual and small group instruction. Commensurate with demonstrated ability, training, level of education and experience:
  • Assist certificated staff and work with students and parents regarding attendance problems.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Adherence to professional teaching obligations and maintain subject matter expertise in the specific subject area(s) that you are assisting students in.
  • Maintain an understanding of instructional pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound attention to detail.
  • Ability to work across multiple subject areas.
  • Strong ability to work both independently with little supervision and collaboratively as part of a team

Education and Work Experience

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree
  • Be local to the area
  • Two years of education experience preferred

Compensation

$22.25/Mon-Friday/6.5 Hours Per Day
