Overview

University Instructors (UI) is seeking dynamic face-to-face elementary teachers with a passion for supporting students in grades K-5 for the 2024-25 school year. In this role, under the direction of the University Instructors’ team, and the school district, you will create an engaging and safe learning environment for students.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science to elementary students.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provides differentiated instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with program manager, teachers, school leaders, and support staff in assessing and helping students overcome challenges.
  • Maintain professional competence through educational in service activities provided and through other professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain required inventory records.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned school day.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Engage with students in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Know academic standards, grade level, course content, and best instructional practices.
  • Respond to student questions in a positive and supportive manner, providing as detailed instructions as needed.
  • Work with the students to set and maintain progress goals.
  • Submit records related to attendance, student progress, and other UI program requirements on time.
  • Support with all assigned duties, including lunch, hallway, bus, and other activities when needed.
  • Co-plan with assigned teachers and grade-level teams.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:

  • Three years of experience leading elementary instruction.
  • Eligible for, or in possession of, appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate (preferred).
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching.
  • An understanding and working knowledge of elementary mathematics standard.
  • Skills necessary to teach reading in a manner compatible with the curriculum.
  • Be local to the area

Education and Work Experience

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (degree in elementary education or liberal arts preferred).

Work Conditions

  • Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing stooping, lifting.
  • Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands.

 

 

 

 

Compensation

$30-$33
