University Instructors (UI) is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Technology Teacher to join our team and inspire students in the concepts of STEM education. The High School Technology Teacher will teach concepts and standards related to STEM education, including engineering and robotics, using a curriculum approved by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). In this role, under the direction of the University Instructors’ team, and the school district, you will create an engaging and supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and support all students in becoming college and career-ready.

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

• Utilize the technology education curriculum designated by the Virginia Department of Education and the school to develop lesson plans.
• Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills; guide students in selecting projects or experiments, and engage all students in real-world work to optimize learning.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
• Instruct students in the proper and safe use, care, and storage of tools, machines, and equipment.
• Maintain appropriate student records to include attendance reports, grades, competency records, completer data, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
• Stay up-to-date on developments in technology and incorporate them into lessons.
• Sponsor after-school technology and robotics clubs/teams.
• Promote work-based learning, concurrent enrollment, and post-secondary opportunities.
• Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology into their subjects and classes.
• Communicate student progress with parents, school counselors, and administrators.
• Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
• Model equitable practices in all activities.
• Performs other related work as assigned by School Leaders or the UI Program Management Team
• Engage with students in a friendly and professional manner.
• Know academic standards, grade level, course content, and best instructional practices.
• Respond to student questions in a positive and supportive manner, providing as detailed instructions as needed.
• Work with the students to set and maintain progress goals.
• Submit records related to attendance, student progress, and other UI program requirements on time.
• Support with all assigned duties, including lunch, hallway, bus, and other activities when needed.
• Co-plan with assigned teachers and grade-level teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

• Strong understanding of Technology trends.
• Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
• Proficiency in using educational technology and software to support instruction.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and school administration.
• Experience or training in teaching engineering, robotics, or other STEM-related courses or programs is preferred.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and stay updated on technology trends.
• Familiarity with differentiated instruction and strategies to support diverse learners (preferred).

Education and Work Experience:

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Technology, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• Be local to the area
• 3 years of experience in providing STEM education.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups.

$28-$31/hr
