Job Overview:

University Instructors (UI) is seeking an experienced and motivated SAT/ACT Tutor specializing in High School Math and English to support English Language Learners in preparing for college entrance exams.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Deliver small-group instruction in Math and English, focused on SAT/ACT content and question types.
  • Simplify and scaffold complex test concepts to meet the learning needs and language proficiency levels of ELL students.
  • Teach effective test-taking strategies, including time management, critical reading, problem-solving, and essay writing.
  • Provide targeted support for vocabulary building, grammar rules, and reading comprehension to enhance language skills required for standardized tests.
  • Help students master advanced math concepts, such as functions, systems of equations, and probability, as required by the SAT/ACT
  • Break down complex math problems into manageable steps to support student understanding and problem-solving.
  • Teach strategies for analyzing word problems, translating them into mathematical equations, and solving efficiently.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and active participation.
  • Communicate and engage with students in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Review relevant course information and/or content with students.
  • Respond to student questions in a positive, and supportive manner, and providing detailed explanations so that the student can grasp key course concepts.
  • Bridge communications between students and teachers regarding specific course content.
  • Communicate with UI program management on specific questions regarding relevant course content.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of SAT/ACT content, structure, and strategies, particularly in Math and English sections.
  • Two years of Secondary English and Math teaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Experience working with ELL students, understanding their unique challenges and learning needs (preferred).
  • Adherence to professional teaching obligations and subject matter expertise in English and Math.
  • Proven experience in SAT/ACT tutoring, with demonstrated success in improving student scores.
  • Strong knowledge of SAT/ACT content, structure, and strategies, particularly in Math and English sections.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work both independently with little supervision and collaboratively as part of a team

 

Compensation

$28/hr
